Living Near Durham Tees Airport

In 2002 it was decided that in order for Teeside International Airport to develop into a modern airport a considerable amount of investment would be needed. In 2003 an agreement was reached with Peel Holdings plc who were to become the strategic partner of the airport, however the local authorities will still be heavily involved in the airports continuing development.

It is predicted that over the next 5 years a staggering £20 million will be pumped into the improvement and development of Teeside Airport. The proposed development currently stands at the construction of a new access road to the terminal, improvements to the car park and to enlarge and enhance the terminal building.

According to the Government's White Paper "The Future of Aviation", published in 2003 passenger numbers are predicted to at least double from current levels by 2030. The paper also reports a proposal to build a major business park next to the airport, as well as providing good quality bus links from Darlington and Middlesborough. The White Paper reports that it believes there to be enough land around the existing airport so as to not cause major disturbances to the surrounding area.
